NEW GUARDS REGIMENT. London, March 3. The Daily Graphic suggests the formation of a regiment of Dominion Guards. It would happily round off the establishment of household troops. Sufficient men would be forthcoming from war-tried Canadians, Anzacs and South Africans.
SPEAKING PICTURES. London, March 3. Mr Godfrey Isaacs states that, by means of wireless telegraphy, the problem of a talking cinematograph has been solved, the pictures and dialogue synchronising exactly. The cost of the improvement is not extravagant. The invention has reached the stage of a commercial enterprise.
PROPOSED UNION OF PROTESTANT AND CATHOLIC CHURCHES. New York, March 3. It is officially announced that a deputation from the World Conference of Chu.-ches will leave the United States on March C for Rome, to urge the Pope to co-operate in the formation of a league of all Protestant and Catholic churches of the world. The deputation will consist of Bishops Weller, Anderson, and Boyd, representing the Protestant and Episcopal churches of the United States.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
INCREASED POSTAGE ON LETTERS FOR ABROAD. (Received March 5, 9 p.m.) BERNE, March 4. The International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union proposes to increase the postage on letters abroad to forty centimes, and postcards to fifteen centimes.
