Mr. W. H. Singleton, assistant director of the Dairy Division, is on a short visit to Taranaki. At the Fire Brigades Association con-, ferenee at TnvereargiH, Superintendent W. Leath, of Hastings, was elected president of the association. —Press Assoc. Nurses Mills, Paget, Leech, Milroy and Waller, of the New Plymouth Hospital staff, have reccved word that they were successful in passing in the recent State registration examinations. In reply to a deputation, the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. J. H. Gunson, has consented to become a candidate for the new Roskill seat at the next general election. lb is stated that Colonel (Dr.) M'Gavin, of Wellington, who has been on active service since the first year of war, may succeed Surgeon-General Henderson, as Director of Military Medical Services in New Zealand. Colonel M'Gavin is expected to return to New Zealand shortly Miss D. Simpson, who has for the past two years been assistant teacher at Norfolk Road School, was the recipient on Friday last of a number of farewell presents from the pupils of the school, wiio at the same timo tendered their hearty good wishes for her future in the school at Qngarue, to which she has been appointed, Miss E. Billens, 8.A.. who formerly resided in Palmerston North, and who is at present on the staff of the New Plymouth Boys' High School, has been appointed to . the position of assistant mis-tress of the Palmerston High School. Miss Billens was dux of the Palmerston High School when she was a pupil there, and was also a teacher at College Street School.
