CRICKET.

BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL v. WANGANUI COLLEGE. The annual match between the above two schools opened yesterday on the local school grounds in perfect cricketers' weather. The visitors batted first and made a very good allowing by compiling 103 in the first innings. It was not a big hurdle before the local boys, but none the less it was a comfortable neore for the visitors to have behind them. O'Halloran and Sinclair shared the bulk of the bowling, the former being most successful. The fielding of the local team was good, but hardly crisp enough. When the New Plymouth boys went to the wicket they met disaster in the first over, Osborne being stumped before he scored, and O'Halloran being despatched a moment or two later for two. The third wicket went for a total of 19, and then a short stand was made by Sinclair and Hine. The bowling and fielding of the visitors, however, was of a class that the local boys were not equal to, and the side was despatched for 60. In the second innings Wanganui gave a fine display of batting, hitting all round the wicket and punishing severely the loose stuff sent down. The bowling of the local team weakened perceptibly, and the work in the field was not up to that of their morning display. Porritt gave a fine exhibition and accounted for 4a by sound cricket. When stumps were drawn the visitors had 130 for seven wickets. Messrs W. C. Weston and E. Lash were the umpires. Hine captained the local team and Stowe controlled the visitors. The game will be resumed at 10.30 this morning. Following are the Bcoves:— Wanganui.—First Innings. Stowe, c Sax-ton, b O'Halloran .... 3 Hocking, c Clifford, b O'Halloran ..
