HEAVY DAMAGES.
♦ AGAINST A LAND AGENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day the action was concluded in which Thomas and William Brown, farmers, To Awamutu, claimed from Joseph Thomas, formerly a laud agent, £SBOO as damages for alleged misrepresentation in connection with the exchange of a farm at Opotik) for one at Gordontown, near Hamilton. The case for the plaintiffs was that the manager of defendant's Hamilton branch made certain representations reyarding the (Jordontown property that induced them to exchange, and that such representations were not in accordance with fact. The jury found that all hut one Of the representations complained of wore untrue, and in answer to the issue, Wei* I hey made fraudulently or negligently' returned a reply negligently. The jnrj awarded r.'.ISS damages and £IOO fot labor and material. The judge said that although the judgment was against Thorncs.. it, was not in respect of anything improper done 'l>v him, but because he was responsive, foj the acts of his servant.
