HYDRO-ELECTRIC DEVELOPMENT.
PROPOSAL BY MOA ROAD BOARD. Ever since the Government introduced its Bill giving power tor the formation of Hydro-Electric Boards, Mr J. H. Lyon, a member of the Moa Road Board, has been keenly interested in the establishment of a hydro-electric district so as to enable the district around lnglewood to be served from the Maugaimi river. At a previous meeting of the Hoard a committee was set up to .go into the ways and means of setting up such a Board and establishing the district- At Saturday's meeting Mr Lyon stated that the formation' of a Hydro-electric Board by the settlers did away with local body control, sa ;: .' in the matter of striking rates, colic-ting revenue, and controlling elections. It would be necessary to get the feeling of various dairy factories, and chambers of commerce, etc., in the proposed district, and to get a petition from one fourth of the settlers in the proposed area, asking that an electric district should he constituted. He moved that the clerk circularise the various dairy factories and farmers within a reasonable distance of the Manganui, and that the town of Inglewood be approached and asked to co-operate in forming an Electric Power Board. Mr Simpson seconded. Mr Hunter favored calling a public meeting in Inglewood to discuss the matter. Mr Todd understood that Inglewood intended to scrap its plant and obtain its power from New Plymouth. Mr Buckley, who is also a member oi the Inglewood Borough Council, stated that an agreement had been definitely fixed with New Plymouth. The motion was carried.
