At jesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Couotv Council leferenee wa3 made by the chairman (Or. J. S. Connett) to the defeV. of the bridge loan proposals in the Moa Riding. Personally he was disnppmnted, and ho did not know what the i ratepayers thought would be done when the bridges became unusable. The HunUiouse Road, Junction Road, and the Mnkr-lawa bridges were in such a condition »!iat they would noi serve more than ay •.'!'• or two longer. He thought they did nit realise the position. The wav's must be kept open, mid the Council \va<* now put in the position of spending a lot of money on wooden repairs to old bridges They must either do that or rcbiuld them out of a special rate of perhaps jd in £. He thought it would bo much tetter to do the work out of loan and filow posterity to help to pay. If they realised that lie thought they would regret Vaving rejected the proposal. Other couiu Mors expressed opinion to the effect that the ratepayers were not suffi- i cienriy aware of the position, and alsd that the haymaicing operations had prevented many frim recording their votes. to submit the proposal to the ratepayers •gam at the earliest possible date/
