A London message state? that Mr. Clutlia Mackenzie is coming to New Zealand as Lord Jellieoe's guest. The Hon- Br. Pomare, representative of the native race in the Government, lias been rather seriously ill ior a few days, 'but is reported to be improving. Mrs D. Brown has received a cable that her son, Corporal L. C. Brown, is returning by the Port Melbourne, due Marsh 5. The following returning soldiers are expected to arrive at New Plymouth by to-night's inail train: Fincham, Fox, Gilbanks, Harrison, Kirton, Leighlon, '-\lor ris. Woodward, Weller, Monteitli, O'Don nell (2), O'Britn, Little, Baker, Billings Bishop and Coleman. The retirement of Major Norton Francis from tho post of Director of Base Records is announced. He is to be sue ceeded by Major J. G- Roache, D.5.0., a returned soldier, formerly on the stall of the Public Health Department.
Cable adviw has been received thai Corporal W. K. Lauohland, who was a member of the Daily News mechanical staff, is returning by the Hororata, which is due at Wellington about Mareli 13.
Lieutenant C. Bayly, of Toko, who has been serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Palestine, is expected to arrive in San Francisco on his way home to New Zealand o:i March 10 next.
Out of 22 applicants the Wanganui Fire Board appointed Mr John Williams, formerly deputy-supwintendeiif of the Auckland Fire Brigade, superintendent of the Wanganui Fire Brigade —Press Association.
Mr J. Brown, of Maketawa, has received advice lhat his son Private W. A. Brown, who left with tho 39th Reinforcements, is returning home next week-
Mr J. W. Sheppard, Vogeltown, has just received from the Minister of Defence, a 12 years' service medal for his l eon, Lieutenant F. W. 11, Slieppard, D.C.M Lieutenant Sheppard, who he.s seen over three years active service, is only 23 year 3 of age and commenced his service vhen deven as a bugler of the old Taranald Rifles.
It i 9 announced that Major J. O.v burne-Lilly (Director of Personal Services, Dsfenc; Headquarters) will relinquish his duties at the end of tlie month, when lie will leave for Auckland to enter into practice there as a barrister and solicitor. Colonel B. J. Collins, C.MG., 1.5.0., Controller and Auditor-General, is retiring, and is to be succeeded by Colonel G. F. C- Campbell, Secretary to the Treasury. Another change pend'ng in the Audit Depiirtment w the retirement on Saturday of Mr P. Purvis Webb, TVpnty-Comptrollw and Auditor-General,' at the age of sixty-five. .Mr Webb will have been exactly fifty years in the service. His duties will be Dssumed I>y Mr H. A. Lamb, Chief Audit Inspector.
