(From Our Oku Correspondent.) (All ccmuiuDiciLkmo, letters, el/.-., :4ft will] Mr 11. J. Hopkuiii, boolisiiiei:, will promt.': tucaUw.) GALA DAY AT NGAERE. February 27. Favored with ideal weather the beautiful grounds of Lester Bros., at JNigaere, attracted a large attendance from t ii-j immediate neighborhood. Apart from the glorious surroundings an additional attraction was the line programme prepared for patrons. The orchcstrala proved a wonderful musical instrument, the items, whether by reed or ibra.ss instruments, being exceptionally good. A.n orchestra of three, Messrs *<U. Fox. (pinno), Lichtwork (violin). Lester (cor uet), also contributed selections, during whioh several couples had the pleasure oi waltzing on the green Mr Joe Wade, jar., in costume, neatly footed a sailor's hornpipe, whilst Mr J. Andrews put plenty of vigor into his Irish jig, berth items being well received The veteran Mr Joe Wade, piped for his son, whilst Mr Fox wa?. accompanist to tho Irish jig. Soloi were also contributed by Messrs Fox and Liehwark, and were much appreciated. Mr Bert Vinsen, in clown's attire, created amusement in his antics, whilst his clever pony performed oireus tricks. A feature of the afternoon was a boxing Ibout by Mr J. S. Rowe and a kangaroo, the contest being Eagerly followed in all its stages /I novel waterplar.e race on the lake add*d further interest to the outing, thv efforts of the three competitors tft keep afloat in their frail craft being ludicrous, and capsizes were frequent. A portion of tho proceedings were einematagrapheed and will, in due. course, be screened at Stratford. With the birds and animals to be seen, and the beautiful tvalks affording every opportunity to ba<sk in the sunshine or rest in the ehade, there was not a dull moment, the outing proving a memorable one to all. GFNERAT, A fair number of Stratfordian3 visited Hawera this afternoon, and expressed themselves as greatly pleased with the duality Of the stock, etc., and state that the numerous side shows (which go a lons way to make these meetings attractive) were remineseent of pre-war I days when A. and P. Shows were nothing without the travelling showman.

A ease set down for decision at the court to-moTrow is thatbrought by Mr Bowers in connection with expenses entailed by the Hospital Board commandeering hi? house (Melrose) during the re«ent infhienza epidemic.

j Information has been received that Pergeant. L. O. Aldridge is returning by j Draft 221 (Hororata). Bis parent,*, IMr and Mrs R P. Aldridge, Pembroke j road, will be pleased to see their son [back a train. Whilst the ep ; demic was raging in Stratford information was reeeived that the returning soldier had "gone West" and his obituary notice was published. Happily this wa« a mistake of the Base Records and the parents are now anxiously awaiting the return of one once mourned as lost. P. Edwards, chemist of Stratford, notifies that he will shortly be moving into more commodious premises in the municipal buildings, T. LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT. Last Saturday my usual weekly rile was held with a splendid entry of poultry- Prices were viery and were somewhat of a record. I quofc as follows: Hens 2s to os fid: cockrells Is fid to 4s (VI; ducks 2a fid to 4s; potatoes. 10s to lis ewt.: peaoh (very poor) anything from Is to fa, pears 2s •5(1 to 4s! apples 2s 6d to 7'. tomatoes fid per lb, plums 3s to fis. I also held a salo of furniture at the residence of a client, which was very satisfactory. T. Isi mason's usual weekly sale is advertised for Saturday, showing a fairly lensthv list of goods to be s6ld on behalf of various vendors.

In Broadway there is a shop that is always attractive. Goods are displayed in a ta.steful manner, the quality is of the best, and the prices lowest on the market. This combination is hard to beat and is the secret of the great success attained by Mr. C. E. James. This is no wild statement but ft fact. Just now he is offering a wide range of ladies' handbags that are exceptionally good value, whilst, his crockery and antimony ware is worthy of particular attention. —Advt.
