Mr Searby Buxton, one of Canterbury's tarly settlers, died at bis private residence, l&vendish Street, Allcnlon, AslUmrtnn. on Tuesday last. The lute Mr Buxton wn« born in Lincolnshire in 1832, and was within a few days of r"ai-li!ii« his 87th birthdav. He is survived by a family of four sons and three daughters.
A Hastings message states that the Hon. A. L. D Eraser died earlv this '••n'rtintf. afto- an illness lasting over two years. He was 57 years of age. He was born ?.t Kaiapoi and settled in Hawke's Bay in 18S1, first as a" schoolmaster and then as advocate in the Vntive Land Court He sat for Hawke's Bay from 1359-190 S.
On Tuesday last, Sergeant-Major E. Bezar celebrated his 81st birthday at his residence in Wellington. He served at Malta, in the Crimean War, at Aden during the Indian Mutiny, in India in 1860, and was then ordered tc New Zealand with his regiment. He fought through the Maori War of ISOI and 1863. He took his discharge from the regiment in 1867, and was appointed sergeantmajor of militia and volunteers at Wauganui in the following year. He served in that capacity at various places throughout New Zealand for the succeeding 25 years. He lias been living in retirement in Wellington since 1892 and can still receive the congratulations of his friends on being hale and hearty.
