A number of Stratford business men met Mr Paget, the* advance representative of the Chatauqua movement, who arrived in Stratford last evening, to explain the methods of orgsmisatiun and to when Chatauqua would arrive in Taranaki. March lltli. The Stanley road hall was much too small to accommodate those who attended the welcome home accorded the sons of two well-known settlers in the district. Both men have had over four years' service in Egypt and Mesopotamia, and were invalided home quite recently, Mr P. H. Wellington was chairman, and, in the course of a happy speech, welcomed Sergt. Adam Sangster and Lance-corporal Richmond, and as a momento of the occasion presented each with an illuminated address and a ease of pipes. 'Sergt. Sangster, who is looking very well, suitably acknowledged the gifts, and later in the evening tuned up the bagpipes and accompanied the veteran, Joe Wade, in his sword-dance, an item that appealed to the Scottish folk present. Miss Martin, of Pembroke road, was also very pleasing in her vocal items, whilst the imitation brass band items by Mr Bert Vinson brought down the house. Miss Anderson played for the dance, the duties of M.O. being in the efficient hands of Mr F. Chard. Messrs Lester Bros., the new proprietors of the Ngaere Gardens', are leaving no stone unturned to pave the way to the greater popularity of this well-known scenic resort. The grounds are now showing a wealth of bloom, whilst the native trees and shrubs are looking at their best. Next Thursday the gardens should attract a large attendance, the management having completed arrangements for a programme, the excellence of which is undoubted, and for variety will easily be the best. Several novelties have been secured and a concert platform erected whereon vocal items, Irish jigs, etc.. will be contributed by several popular performers. There will also be racing on the lake, and a i iiiematagraph operator has been cngdged to take views of the proceedings, to be shown in the Stratford Picture Palace, and afterwards all over New Zealand. It will be a novelty to many to see themselves "filmed" as the management intend showing the garden and occupants in every detail. L. LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT.
