HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING., The monthly meeting of the Tara<naki Hospital and' Charitable Aid' Board waß- held yesterday. The chairman ' (Mr M. Fraser) presided and' there were also present: Messrs J. Andrews, F. J. Hill, R. Morgan, A. H. Halcombe, S. Campbell, and J. Young. An apology for absence was received from Mr C, Andrews. MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. The mSdical superintendent (Dr E. A. Walker) reported that the work for the month had been light, and the staff had had opportunity to recuperate after 'strenuous tfhjes. So far as the hospital was concerned the influenza epidemic was considered ended) only two case's of la,te ecrtnplicatipns rfimaining'in the institution. Use wards have «U been fumigated and cleansed and the hospital is resuming its normal routine of duty. During the absence of tlte medical superintendent Dr. Fookes was in charge of the hospital. The admissions were 74, discharges 05, and there wire 7 deaths. Sixty-eight patients remained in the hospital. The daily average was 62 and the highest for any one day 69. Twenty-three operations were performed. MATRON'S REPORT. The matron (Miss B. A. Campbell) reported that Sister Muir, Nurses L Lansjey, Farley and Peers went on holiday leave, and Sister Fatchill, Nurses Hamblyn, Hirst and Wilson hhd returned to duty. Nurse Merfin has completed her time of probation and was ; now oil the permanent staff. Various matters relating to the conduct of the hospital Were placed under the notice of the board for consideration. RANGJATEA HOME. The matron of the Rangiatea Home (Mrs A. Bayly) reported a satisfactory 'month. There had been three admissions, and 45 inmates (males 36, .females 9) remained in the home. FARM' REPORTS. The chairman of the Farm Committee (Mr J. Andrews) reported having visit' ed the board's farm properties and .found everything generally in a satisfactory state. He made certain recommendations in regard to details of the working. The farm manager (Mr W. 0, Noble) reported satisfactory progress. The supply of milk had more than met the demand, and after separating, the sur:plus cipajnjhad- been disposed,of to the iWmganui Fresh Food and Re-Co. «Several' fat pigs had been eeilt out, and there were about \% young pigs oa the place, GENERAL. Misses E. M. Francis (Fitzroy), E. McManus (Wellington) and -A. C. Bridge (Auckland), were added to the probationers' list. The medical superintendents' read' justments of the staff, on aocount of the death of Sister Taylor were confirmed by'the board. A letter was received from the Central Council of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, stating that the society's nurses were ready at. all times to rooperate with hospital boards in matters affecting the general health and well-being of women and children. Ambiiry, in" rftgard to service of the hospital board's motor ambulance, in which suggestions were made that, as it was not always possible or convenient for business men to be on eall for the ambulance car service, something should be. done to train the male staff connected with the hospital in ambulance work, so that they might, fee available in cases of emergency, it was decided to th,ank Mr Ambury for his letter and the suggestions contained therein and to inform him that the matter would be referred to the House Committee for consideration. It was decided that the plans for the establishment of a new and up-to-date laundry, be forwarded as sppn as possible to the Minister of Public Health for his consent to proceed with the work.
