Mr. Bonar Law has announced that the Government has definitely instructed the delegates of the Indemnity Commission to claim war costs and damages.—Reuter FRANCO-BELGIAN FRONTIERS. TROUBLE OVER LEAGUE. Paris, Feb. 13. Mr. Fraser says that, broadly speaking, Belgium asks her Allies to place her in a favourable position territorially to secure better defence. Both France and Belgium realise their vulnerability with the present land frontiers, and Belgium would like to secure her old position in Limburg and further desires the Walloon Cantons on the German territory round Malmedy. She also desires amalgamation with Luxemburg. There is reason to believe that both France and Japan have taken strong exception to certain clauses in the scheme for the League of Nations and the drafting committee is at present endeavouring to reconcile the deraandß. '•hr-re have been somewhat heated dis cussions over the creation of an international army and navy, which is said to fc« opposed by Anglo-American theories, while France remains insistent for something that will give her protection against the possibility of a militant Germany.—Aus.-N.Z. The popularity of President Wilson here has taken a huge drop, and the French show strong resentment ft President Wilson and the British delegates because tney arc afraid they wish to show leniency to Germany.
