BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MEETING OF WORKS COMMITTEE.* The works committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council met on Wednesday, the Mayor presiding, and there were present: Crs G. W. Browne, R. J. Deare, VV. ]?. Short, W. A. Collia, and J. Clarke. ENTRANCE TO PARK GROUNDS. The chairman of the Pukekura Park Board, wrote in reference to the expenditure of the amount of the Mayor's honorarium, donated to the Board with a request that it should he used to erect a boulder fence to replace the present corrugated iron fence along the south side of Fillis street. He intimated the board's willingness to ■undertake the work, but stated that in order to get a satisfactory foundation it would ba necessary to erect the fence about 12 feet north of the present line, taking in a path never used by residents in the street, and yet leaving a good footway inside the fence which would be more benefit to the public. The engineer reported that 'ret to any legal objections, he thought the arrangement would be beneficial to the public. THE ELECTRIC BUS. ' A petition was received from 27 ratepayers of Westown, residing beyond the Oiiiata road, urging the Council to extend the line of the bus service to the Wallath road instead of the Ornnto road as at present proposed. It was decided to inform the petitioners that the matter would be considered when the time-table Lad been tried. In reply to a question by Cr. Browne it was stated that the bus would be ready for running in about ten days. GENERAL. If.Tonks, Fulford street, wroto asking that something be done to improve the footpath in that street leading from Dawson street to Mt. Edgecomhe street. The matter was referred to tie Mayor and Cr. Clarke, with power to act. Permission was asked by. the Citizens' Band to take up a collection for the band funds at the recital to be given on March 9, as owing to the epidemic the band had not been able to hold its usual Christmas benefit concerts.—The application was granted. Permission was given to E. Davies to erect an electric sign under the verandah in front of his new premises in Devon street, subject to its conforming with the by-laws. The tender of Thos. Avery was accepted for the printing of the borough ratepayers' roll. The matter of the appointment of a ( borough foreman was left over till J Monday next.
