MINISTER AND RAILWAYMEN.
PUBLICITY NOT WANTED, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 12. Tho Miuister for Railways declined -the request of the delegates of tho Locomotives', Engine-drivers', Firemen's and Cleaners' Association that the conference between the Minister and them this afternoon should be open to the press. When the delegates called on the Minister they asked that they should bo allowed to have their own stenographer and be allowed to act at their own discretion in making use of the report. The .-Hon. Hemes made a stipulation that the report should not be made available to the press. Objection was raised to this restriction, and the delegates withdrew to consider the matter. In a report to the 'press Mr MoArley, secretary of the Association, says the Association insisted that the matters in dispute had been dismissed by the Minister and manager for the last seven or eight years, and it was up to the Minister to show he had considered these matters and had certain proposals r.:i make The delennim expressed the conviction, Mr McArley adds, that the old method of listening to the men's arguments and replying "any old time" was ealled in.
