INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, Feb. 13, Mr. E. Olson, town clerk, who has been on active service, resumed his duties at the borough office this week. Lance-Corporal C. W. Looney and Privates A. S. Baker, T. Bishop, L. S. Instone and E. James returned last week from the front, and were met at the sfation by a large number of friends who welcomed them back. The Napier bowlers will occupy two rinks at the local green on Saturday morning, when they will try conclusions with the local sports. The bowling tourney, StratfordInglewood, which should have eventuated here to-day, has been postponed until a future date.
Mr. Bailey, postmaster, has been advised that his son, Corporal L. W. Bailey, is due to arrive back with the 217 draft on the 27th instant.
There was a general exodus of the inhabitants to Nei-.- Plymouth last Thursday to witness the contest between Desert Gold and Gloaming. Yesterday the local sports were well represented at Hawera, and despite the inclemency of tin? weather this morning a good number were prepared to make the journey 'to South Taranaki had the races been held. Local land agents have been doing good business of late, there being several sales and many enquiries for land in this neighborhood recently. Land in this district has never been boomed to any extent, and the low ruling price has brought fortii numerous enquiries from intending settlers, and farms recently changed hands in the Kaimata district for £45 per acre.
