Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: At Kohuratahi on January 30 we had a full yarding of cattle and a fair yarding of sheep. There was a good attendance and most lines were quitted at satisfactory prices. Yearling steers realised £2 17s Cd to £3 12s Gd, 2-year steers £7 4s, 2-year heifers £7, bulls £B, empty cows £0 to £9 2s Cd, f. to f.m. ewes 13s 3d to 21s Cd, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 26s 6d to 28s, rams 18s. At Stratford on February 4 we had a full yarding of cattle, but few sheep came forward. Cattle made satisfactory values, well-conditioned cows selling particularly well. Woolly lambs realised lis Id, f.m. ewes 19s lOd, 15-month heifers £4 14s, fat heifers £8 ss, store cows £4 7s Cd to £7 10s, fat cows £9 18s : to £l2, bulls £ll to £ls. At Mat&u on Friday, February 7, we had our sheep fair, also a full yarding of cattle. All the sheep except two pens were quitted under the hammer or immediately afterwards at satisfactory » values. Cattle were dull, but we succeeded in placing several lines at ruling rates. Cull lambs realised 5s 8d to 5s lOd, shorn lambs lis 9d to 13s Bd, woolly R lambs 12s 5d to 14s, f.m. ewes 10s 8d g to 20s lOd, 4 and 0-tooth ewes 16s 4d to | 24s fld,, 2-toot hewes 15s 6d, 2 and 4- § tooth wethers 18s to 20s 6d, rama 15s | to 255, bulls £7 12s Od to £B, 15-month | heifers £4 i)s to '£4 19s, 15-month | steers £3 10s to £4. 0 At Puniwhakau, on February 8, we had our opening fair in this district in Mr. T. Hayes' yards. The yards were tilled to overflowing, and although some lines failed to reach reserves, we quitted i the full offering at full market rates. Cull lambs realised 4s 3d, shorn lambs 7s 4d to 9s, woolly lambs lis 8d to 13s Od, f.m. ewes 5s to 8s 6d, 6-tooth to f.f.m. ewes 10s to 225, 4 and 0-tooth wethers 2Ss fld to 295, rams 18s. At Tahora sheep fair, on February 10, we had a small yarding but at prices slightly in favor of purchasers. We sold most lines yarded. ffaur and 6-tooth wethers realised 20s t@ 27s 6d, mixed 2-tooth ewes 27s Od. Private sales in paddock have looked > up considerably since the holidays. Sheep are Is to 2s lower than the corresponding values at this season last year. Young cattle are 5s to 10s lower, and steers two years and upwards are 10s to 20s lower than hist summer. At these values purchasers are operating freely. Wethers have brought 255, ewea 20s, 15-month heifers £4 lis to £4 15s, 15-month steers £4 15s to £5, 2J-year steers £7, bullocks £l2 15s, forward cows £9 10s to £lO, bulls £ls, gelding £22 10s.
