Amongst the prisoners sentenced in the Supreme Court were Charles Sherman, for forgery and uttering at Thames, two years' probation, his residence and occupation being subject to the approval of the probation officer; Ernest Brett, alias Cecil Francis, for indecent assault five veal's' imprisonment; Alfred Herbert Brooks, for indecent assault on a male, three years' probation; John Alfred Johannes, for breaking, entering and theft, three venrs' hard labor; Ernest William bnrbridgc charged with committing' a "riminal offence on a girl, acquittedThomas .Savage, a Maori, charged with bitranty. in having married a white worn .in ill England while he had a Maori wife. n,t Thames. He committed the offence .under U'c imnression that as his "rat wife had left him he was entitled to re-nvrry after a certain lapse of time.
