BRITISH PARLIAMENT.
HOUSE OF COMMONS OPENS. SPEAKER ELECTED. London, Feb. 4. There was a big attendance at the opening of the House of Commons, and many members were unable to find seat*. The Laborites occupied the opposition benches, including the front bench, with the Independent Liberals who are Privy Councillors, Messo Mac Lean, Hodge, Clvnes, Thome, Crooks, and Adamson sitting on the front bench. Mr-F. B. Mildmay proposed Mr Lowflier's reelection as Speaker, and Sir Henry Dalziell seconded the motion, He paid a tribute to Mr Lowther's high appreciation of the Speaker's duties. Mr T.owther accepted the position, and recalled that he had presided over the House of Commons in the momentous days of the outbreak of the war and hoped that he would still be m the choir when the announcement was made that peace l.ad been signed. He was willing to retain the Speakership for two years. Mr T.owther mov»d an adjournment until to-morrow, when members will be sworn in.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc.
