The local turnip competition promises to be an event that will take some winning this year. Already there arc indications that all previous records (and there has been'some good ones) will be eclipsed. Land values continue lift locally, though not many of the settlers seem disposed to sell. A Toko road lady is reported to have declined an offer of £SB per acre. After running the Toko butchery for twenty years Mr. Anthony Fergusson has sold his business to Mr. Bethell Mr Fergusson has purchased a section join ing his homestead on the Standish road, where, instead of taking the hides off ,sheep, he intends watching the wool grow on them. The popular "Andy" carries with him the best wishes of a large circle of friends for the success of his new venture. A meeting was held at Toko on January 2!) and it was decided to start a cricket club and commence practice on February S. The following officers we're elected:—President: Mr. vV. H.
