The Stratford Borough Council invites applications lot the purchase in lots of seventy£loo debentures for a term of ten years, carrying interest at five and a quarter per cent, per annum. After serving on the staff of Mr. Newton King here for eleven years, Mr. V. Crawafiaw severed his connection last week. Lopdell, county engineer, is leaving Stratford shortly. On Saturday; evening he was requested to attend at Smith's tea roorfts, and there found about thirty county employees awaiting him. In a short speech Mr. §. Parker (foreman of the South Riding! utatcd that whilst they were pleased to learn that Mr. Lopdell liad secured service With a more important county, they regretted they were losing atf engineer who had ever striven to see justice done to tho men while conserving the interest of ratepayers. On bcjiati of the employees he presented the engineer with an illuminated address, signed l>y the eight riding foremen. Before Mr Lopdell could get over his surprise he received a further gift of a silver Entree set for Mrs. Lopdel], accompanied by the best of good wishes to Mr. and Mrs/Lopdell and family for the future. The recipient, who was deeply moved by this testimony of good feeling, briefly acknowledged the sentiments of the speaker and the kindly thoughts that prompted the gifts. Stratford postal officials now possess a motor delivery van. In all the glory of a brilliant red paint it careered through the town and made people stand up and take notice. If this is the forerunner to a new post office all Stratford will be delighted.

l ? ine lots of sheep are now being railed through Stratford. Eltham evidently has a few graziers, as some of the slieep on the northern train were trucked there. It was thought that land was too dear for grazing purposes, but evidently this is not correct. Perhape, however, the land out Omoana way is being cleared and the sheep are the pioneer stock till the roads permit of miking operations and dairy factories.
