The Waitara Borough Council did not come to a liual decision as to obtaining a supply of electric energy from iNew Plymouth at a special meeting held for that purpose on Wednesday night last, but are awaiting the decision of Messrs Borthwiek and Sons .as to whether they will take current also. The father of Mrs H. M. Lund, of Waitara, Mr A. J. Sugden died at her residence on Wednesday, aged 80 years. The interment took place on Thursday, the Rev. Gain officiating-
Privates H. Sofi'e and E J. Frost were in town yesterday, having got off the Neiv Plymouth train to come home instead of going to New Plymouth hospital as they were intended to. Private Soffe has been very seriously wounded and. is still far from well. Private Frost is looking well, but is suffering from a wound in the shoulder. They both went into the hospital last night. A service in memory of Capt. Roberts and Engineer X. A. Jamiesou is to be held in Knox Church to-morrow night. The Mayor has received to s«nd in the names of all thoso who actively assisted in combatting the influenza epidemic. The Government is, I believe, issuing certificates to all whose names are sent in
The polling on the proposal to make Waitara a fire district was held yesterday, 109 votes being recorded, of which 103 were for the proposal and 5 against it. The proposal was therefore declared carried.
There was about 70 people +o hear the Moderate Leaeiie speakers in the Theatre last night. I wm not present but believe that both speakers spoke well for the party they represent deserving a far larger attendance .tlian were present.
