SOCIAL ITEMS. Afternoon Tea.—A most enjoyable af-fci-noon tea was given by Miss Stanford 1 "Chetwode" on Wednesday for her present and ex-pupils Miss Stanford, iiv.'io has earned on the only private girls' boarding school in New Plymouth, is leaving shortly to take charge of the Girls' Diocesan School at Stratford. Owing to the influenza epidemic there was no "breaking-up" last year, so Miss Stanford took this opportunity of presenting the prizes. During the afternoon the "old girls," as a mark of their esteem, presented Miss Stanford with a satinwood case, containing two silver candlesticks, silver inkpot, pen and pencil, little Margaret Prichard making the presentation, while marjory Bloxam and Molly Allen presented Miss Stanford and Miss Constance Stanford each with a feougutt.
