After the doctors examined the troopship Malta to-day there was a conference ashore, and the vessel was given a clearance. It ia expected she will be bsrthed at 8.30.

Joseph Hill, who was arrested yesterday on a warrant from Wellington on a charge that during Julv and September at Wellington and at Blackball he conspired with others to procure abortion, was brought before Mr. Murdoch, J.P., this morning and remanded to Wellington. Hail was refused.
INFLUENZA PENSIONS. Chrisichurcii, Jan. 20. The Hospital liuar.l passed a. resolution calling on the Minister to transfer llie payment of influenza widows' pensions to the Pensions Department, at the same time providing uniform pensions of ten shillings for boys up to fifteen years and girls up to sixteen.
THE TROOPSHIPS, Christehur hj, Jan. 20, The troopship Union has been released from quarantine. The Ciiristcburch quota will arrive here to-night. The j North Island men leave by ferry steamer to-night, and the West Coast and southern draft by train to-morrow morning. Wellington, Jan. 29. The troopship Malta, which arrived from Egypt Inst Monday, was allowed by the Health Department to berth this j morning. Three hundred Rarotongans, I some of whom showed pneumonic symp- • loins, were previously landed on Somes i Island, leaving 401 New Zealand white ! troops to eomo ashore to-day. Those i'or other parts of the North Island left, by train, and the southern men leave bv the Maori to-night. The hospital ship Mnrama, from England via Auckland, repelled Wellington this morning and disembarked 700 men.
