FOOTBALL.
AMENDMENT OF RULES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 28. A special meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Rugby Union has been called for January 30 on the requisition of the Auckland, Canterbury, Otago and Southland Unions to consider proposals for the amendments of the rules of the Union, and the laws of the game. The proposed alteration of rules is diregfed principally in the direction of giving the New Zealand Union power to make modifications in the laws of the aame and forward same to tlie English Union, The proposed alterations in the rules are largely on the lines indicated at the time of the dispute between the New Zealand Union and the Wellington Union. A further motion deals with the rules as to professionalism as follows: That Northern Union flayers who have been on active service, or who have never received monetary payment for playing football, shall bo eligible for reinstatement, hut no player over the age of IS rears last birthday who takes part in a Northern Union game shall be eligible for reinstatement.
