.Mr Holland, M.P., applied for permisoion to assist tile prosecution o« the grounds that lie was the instigator of the proceedings. lie contended iliat the lirst charge was made by him at Reefton in .May last, and that he had on various occasions sinje demanded u court-martial.

Mr Armstrong strongly opposed the application, contending that an instigator should be something more than a writer of newspaper correspondence As for the demand foi' a trial, the iu?titulor oi the proceedings was Lieut. Crampton himself. The prosecutor. Captain E. Hudson, pointed out that the question was of conferring with, not assisting the prosecutor. He failed to sec how he could be assisted very much by Mr Holland, but he had no real objection t.o the lat-tt-r sittiti'.' with him.
