NURSERYMEN'S CONFERENCE.
YESTERDAY'S RESOLUTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the nurserymen's conference to-day a report was received from the diseases committee stating that it had urged the Department of Agriculture to take steps to protect citrus fruits from canker. It was resolved to urge the Government to take effective steps to prevent the introduction of citrus canker to New Zealand.
Tho Nurserymen's Association decided to urge tho Government to year by year send two or more members of tho horticulture division overseas for a term to gain experience which would fit tjjrui for giving the best service to New hJ?.lund.
Tho conference also resolved to ask the Government to proceed with the establishment of a Dominion institute of horticulture, with training facilities, both practical and scientific, in suitable centres.
Professor Kirk, director of the Horticulture Division, said the Minister for Agriculture was highly sympathetic with tho idea. Plans were ready to 9tart the scheme as soon as the Government found the money. The following officers wore elected: President, Mr. Robert Nairn (Christchurch) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. A. Hay (Auckland), A. W. Buvton (Christcliurch); secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. A. Green (Auckland) j committee, Messrs J. J. McKay, W. S. Johnston, A. G. Shaucr (North Island), E. W. Ivory, J. Millichainp, and W. L. Grant (South Island); auditor, Mr. W. S. Johnsou (Auckland).
