MEETING OF GENERAL- 0OM- „ MITTEE. " :

•£ meeting of the General Committee ■of the i'aranalci Agricultural Society -was neld on Saturday afternoon, Mr W. B. Grant presided, ana there were also present: Messrs H. C. Sampson, T. W. Blackball, R. W. Pigott, A. T. Moore, C. Dobson, B. Honeyfield, C. W. Reube, E. D. Ansford, and F. Hodson.

Before proceeding to the general business a resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr A. James was passed in the customary manner. The grounds committee reported having arranged with the Defence Department for the lease of 11J acres of the Itewa Rewa rifle range, and their action was confirmed. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Smart and Dobson for their efforts in this connection.

The matter of arranging for a judge in the Light Horse section at the Autumn Show was left in the hands of Messrs Fairbfother, Nolan and Pigott. It was decided that a cow be provided for the weight-guessing competition at the Autumn Show and that the freak bullock be held over for the Winter Show. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Ansford for his donation of a freak bullock to the Society and also for his offer of the use of a cow for the guessing competition.

It was decided that the color of members badges for the Autumn Show should be red.

Messrs E. Stanley, H. Ward and D. Penwarden were added to the executive committee.

It was decided to procure leather tags for tieing on to the wool of entries in the purebred sheep classes. The matter for accommodation for the Taranaki Farmers' Meat Company's exhibit at the forthcoming Show, was left in the hands of the Space Committee, with power to act. Messfs Grant, Dobson and Hoskin were appointed a Space Committee. The matter of catering for the Autumn Show was referred to the ladies, and a meeting in connection with the matter will be held on Saturday next. A letter was received from the Council of the New Zealand Leghorn Club asking permission to hold its Fourth Special Prize iu conjunction with the Poultry Division, at the next Winter Show 'of the Society. The club offered for competition among its members three shields of the value of £35 and £l2 in cash specials. The two conditions attaching to the request were that the judge's name be submitted to the Club for approval before final appointment; and that a duly appointed representative of the Club Council be allowed to be present when the shields and prizes were awarded. It was decided to accept the offer to hold the competition at New Plymouth, and the poultry committee was instructed to submit a report to the next meeting of the executive, as to the requirements iu regard to pens, stands, etc.

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association will be held in New Plymouth during the next Winter Show week
