PAYING WAGES DURING THE EPIDEMIC.

By Telegraph.—Pmg Association, Wellington, Last Night. The liability of employee to pav wages for time lost during the epidemic was subject to an opinion given bv the solicitor-General. He advises compulsory dosing of places by the Health Department does not take away the obligation of an employer to pay wages. The only employers who can refuse to pay are those who took occasion to terminate the engagement of tfceir servants in a proper iffanner- However, in certain cases of employment by day or hocr the terms may be rach that the mere closing of premises ?s sufficient notice of termination.
The Solicitor-General also savs that whether the premises W6re closed or not employer? are liable mttfl employment terminated to pay the wages of employees absent through illness. The employers' liability will be the sif&ject of a test case this week. ~
