PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
NEW PLYMOUTH ARRANGEMENTS. A meeting of the New Plymouth Peace Celebrations Committee was held at the Borough Council chambers last night, Mr. J VV. Hayden presiding
The chairman outlined a scheme lor a three-days' function, similar to that contemplated in some of the larger centres, which it was thought might be adopted locally. The idea is that the celebrations should commence on a Sunday and include thanksgiving services in all the churches as well ft 9 a united service of thanksgiving (probably m the open air). The Monday would be devoted to a general demonstration, and Tuesday would be Eore particularly a children's day. It was resolved to forsa a representative general osmmittee, with delegates from all the local bodies and other organisations. The Mayor (Mr. O. H. Burgess) is to be asked to act as president. The town clerk (Mr. F T Bellringer) was appointed secretary pro tern, and Mr J. Paton treasurer
The delegates from the Bowsugh and County Councils are to be asked to act an a preliminary Finance Committee to go into the matter of vbat moneys would be aviilable it was estimated that a, sum of about #.500 would be required A committee consisting of Messrs. J W. Hayden, S. G Smith, UP., (=! W. Browne, R. A. Large and J. H. Fov.les, was set up to draft a provisional programme and submit the same to a further meeting ef the general committee
