ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Jan. 27. Whilst the manufacture of rennet from veils is a desirable industry, the premises wherein the work is conducted are very pungent, and the fact that the vile smell permeates everything for a distance disturbed the people as well as the atmosphere So pronounced was the atmosphere that the attention of the health inspector was drawn thereto, but though he termed it an obnoxious smell, it was not injurious to health. With this verdict there were many residents conjuring up visions of a universal stampede to other quarters where the air was purer Happily there is no neeed to do this, -as the manufacturer has secured premises in a less congested part of the town, and soon, excepting when a pronounced 6ou.th-east.erly is blowing, the general public will not be aware of the existence of a rennet factory Adjutant and Mrs. Walker, successors to Ensign and Mrs. Sawver, arrived on Friday evening. They lost no time in getting into harness, being present at >i meeting of the Salvation Army the same evening, where they were heartily welcomed by the soldiers and public In connection wilh the recent epidemic, the Eltham Borough Council had to meet a levy of £135 made by the Hawera Hospital Board. At the council meeting on Friday evening, Cr. Tayler (who is also chairman of the Hawera Board) mentioned that Eltham's contribution made it the first local body to forward its quota.
