The annual piicnic in connection with the Uaouui Mutuodist. Sunday Scuool was held in .Mr li. Malcolm's paddock on Wednesday afternoon. There was a large attendance, and, the rain boluuig oil', the cnil'Jreii and grown-ups all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Mr T. t Hughson, jnr , and Alias K. Cooke, the superintendents of the school, being most assiduous in attending to the youngsters. Games, races, ete, together with bounteous refreshments supplied by the ladies of the district, tnade the day a pleasant one for the children. The Uev. F H. A suitable building has been ollered on very iavoiabU. terms, and Mr. Speueer aims at raising a sum of £1*2,000 for its purchase and the necessary alterations- i'ortimis of the building would be let and bring in a revenue which would go far towards meeting the ordinary administrative expenses of the society in Hew Zealand. The project is one which should appeal to all churchmen, and Mr Spenei>» is hopeful that Taranaki will contribute a generous share of the c^st.
The Soutii Taranaki Winter Show Company made £43-2 out of its last win ter show. The reias now amount to £1250 per annum, and when the freezing company vacate the premises the rents will bo £ooo. Tljg assets of the company now total .t 14,&>!.!, while the paid up share capital is £4289, there being a reserve of £770. The directors now propose thß addition of a second storey in Aibion street to provide a tea room and" public meeting room. These additions will place the Show Company in the position of being able to run the great British'Tra'das Exhibition, which has been proposed by the Trade CommiMionc-i More capital is required, and the. directors are asking tlie cooperation ot the people of the district, which their enterprise warrants them in anticipating.
