SURFACEMEN'S PAY.
To tho Editor. Sir.--The Stratford County Council, at the last meeting, in response to a rcquest for an all-rouna .ris» "» wages from their employees, increased the pay of tba foremen, drivers, and tar-man, but not the surfacemen- The question of an increase to them is deferred till May The astuteness of this decision ib adiuirablu from a ratepayers' point of view. The main work on the roads will then be completed, and the services of a wood many of the surfacemen now employed may not he required, and there will also he a good many more men in the country by then. In the meanwhile, doubtless, the lucky surfacemen will join in applauding the eouncu's eutenesa and look forward with joyful anticipation to uiorti pay in the happy month o£ May.
