CATERING AT NEW PLYMOUTH RACES.

j • ' To the Editor. A '=■ ' * Sir, —I consider the time well overripe for something to be done by those in authority in connection with the wretched catering arrangements at the New Plymouth races. Last Boxinjr Day the afternoon tea supplied at the lviosk was e\ceptionaJly bad. Apparently the tea was made in a wash boiler, then' poured into a pot; anyway, there were no tea leaves to be seen It was simply hog wash, and looked like muddy water. It was accompanied by 0110 sandwich of doubtful quality, and a couple of inferior cakes, the charge for this detectable (?) banquet being one shilling. The writer tendered an additional shilling for a few extra sandwiches, only to be informed that there were none available. Contrast this with the Hawera races, where afternoon tea is strved in a manner quite equal to Eilerslie. The luncheon was on a par with the afternoon tea —simply rotten. Surely visitors who patronise the New Plymouth races, motoring 30 or 40 miles to do so, are deserving of better treatment. The j day following the races, y&ir reporter stated:—"The catering arrangements were in the capable handa of Mr •" I am certain he did not Visit the tea kiosk, or he would have had a very different tale to unfold. —I am, etc., i AN ELTHAM RESIDENT.
