THE SETON MURDER.
EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST. Received Jan 21, 0.45 p.m. l/ondon, Jan. IS. At the Baton inquest, LieutenantColonel Buthertord was riot present. Malcolm gave evidence tlmt Major fcjctou, on the night of the 20th, was in unusually good spirits. Lieutenant-Colonel iHutlierford's interview lasted 15 minutes. Then shots were fired. Witnesß found deceased lying across the hall. Apparently he was in the act of leaving the room wlien lie fell. Rutherford admitted the shooting. He was very quiet and calm, and looked like a man who had decided, to do something, and, having done it, nothing else mattered.
Lady Seton gave evidence that during Malcolm's absence, Lieutenant-Colonel Rutherford was restless. She heard the click of a pistol and shouted: "'Put that down'! Come over here!" Rutherford obeyed, and promised not to „ouoh itj adding he would not promise if it were any use to her.
A doctor j'Jivp evidenoe that there were fourteen bullet wounds in the body, being fired at very close quarters.—Aua -
