MOKAU-AWAJiKa (From Our Own Correspondent.) Again the Awakino School is without a teacher, Miss Sti-el having resigned the duties of "teaching the young idea'' for the happier (though probably more onerous) one of matrimony. Good luck to herself and "better half!"

There is still shearing going oil in some parts of our district, the weather having kept some of our fanners back. Even now there seems little promise of any improvement. It is more like winter than summer. Mr Wrcgge seems to have his "rag out" properly this time.

Mrs Percy Howard gave an evening in aid of the Soldiers' Club on Wednesday last at her home across the river. Si.k, • people wove present and 3. most C-.-';ightful evening was spent in music, song and recitation, etc. Sot the least of the pleasures was the trip over the river by boat, the evening being lovely with a good moon The daintiest of suppers was provided and the justice done to it showed th: appreciation of Mrs Howard's prowess as a cake-maker. Songs were given by Mesdames McXeice and Christofferson, and the Misses K Thomson, L. Bainbridge, H". Wolfe, and Messrs J. Ennis, J Tweedio and P Ho vard. Musical selections by Mesdames \V. D. Thomson and MoNoice, #itd the Mi«£g K. Thomson, Carthew, McXeice, Baddelv. Averv,. and a very fine recitation by Mr Norman Jor.es. One of the most pleasing items of the evening was a vocal duet by Miss L Bninbridge ancl Miss K. Thomson, entitled "That Dear Old Homo of Mine." Miss Bainbvidge s>lso did a "Pierrot Turn" with Mrs Christofferson. The sum of £?. 10s fid was realised by the "silver coin" donations
