THE BOLSHEVIK.

To the Editor J Red-eyed rebellion is the natural se- ( qircnoe of injustice and tyranny. —Car- j lyle. Sir, —In your leader of Monday's issue \ you refer to Bolshevikisra as an ap- , peal to primitive man, which it undoubtedly is, and you advocate a course j of blood and iron to stamp it out, re- | gardless of the fact that the Bolshevik is himself a product of government by olood and iron. Greed-governed cmnsar tion, and mismanaged society have la- j boured and brought forth rebellion AIL the guns in tbe wide world wort't oonvince the Bolshevik that man was made for the social machine, and rot the machine for the man. While the caMeman and war correspondents are telling us what the Bolshevik has done, which might or might not be true, I, with your permission, would like to name some of the things that he has not done, and probably ft resume of what he hasn't done will explain why he is in existence 1 at all. He hasn't banished to a living death in Siberia sixty thousand political prisoners, whose only fault was love of their country, and whose only crime was an attempt to better the i social condition of the women and cliil- \ dren of their race. He hasn't bragged of Empires on which the sun never sets, while hundreds of thousands Jive in alleys where God's sun never., shines. He hasn't forced little children to live in cellars where they take turns at keeping awake to keep the rats oil the others. He hasn't built a sociaJ system that rendered physically unfit, hundreds of thousands of men because they were underfed, underpaid and overworked, which, according to Jjloyd George, is the case in England to-day. He hasn't denied the right to live to little waifs, who with cold, pinched tearstained faces raise their piteous cries to Heaven. He hasn't built a social system that took seven million lives and seventeen million casualties to bolster it up. Every political problem centres around the cradle. In a sanely organised society there would be no Boss Murphy's or Jim Larkins', the one is a natural sequence to the other. Jjet God's good air and sunshine drift through the congested area of population and the Bolshevik will vanish, like an evil dream. —I am, etc., - „, FRANK BELL. \
