NAVY SURPRISES. TEE WORLD'S LARGEST BATTLESHIP. London, Jan. 17, Some details have been disclosed of the Admiralty's surprise class of three sxiper-cbeadnonghta of which the Hood is already launched and neaiiug completion, and the Rodney is now well advanced. Tli.-y will be the world's largest battleships, being only tsven feet shorter than the Annitania (Rfisft), and will carry eight 15-in. gims. Th« ships ivil' lie practically torpedo-proof and fitted with blister cushions against which torpedoes and mines explode harmlessly. Their speed will lit about 30 knots, and they will cost £3,500,000 each. A battle-cruiser of a smaller type but faster is now building. and two others are on the sli^s.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. The Sunday Express states that the Government intends to revive the British Mediterranean squadron and make it particularly strong.
