SHIPBUILDING CONTRACTS. TO BE DISTRIBUTED EQUITABLY. Received Jan. 19, 11.30 p.m. London, Jan. 18. Lord Inehaape and Phillips & Co. state they have taken over tlie contracts now standing for ships from the Government, and will distribute them as equitably as possible. They do not intend to make any profit or favor their own companies, but retain absolute discretion respecting the allotment
Shipowners are asked to make general application by the 24th, and specific* application will be considered thereafter without delay The steamers will not be subject to requisition at Blue Book rates, but if the Government desires to charter them the terms will be mutually arranged, otherwise the vessels will :be on the same footing «• others privately owned. The shins are estimated in the aggregate to cost 20 million. It is anticipated that Ineheape and Phillips & Co. will easily dispose of all the vessels.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. THE MINED STEAMZR. 150. PERSONS SAVED. Received Jan. 18, 5 5 p.m. London, Jan. 17. The French steamer that mas mined in Alessina Strait has nol Ueen identified, but is supposed to be the Chnrrol.
