HAWERA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The arrangements in connection with the social at which it is proposed to entertain the lady V.A.D. workers who assisted in combatting the influenza epidemic at Hawera are well in hand. The function will take the for mof a sooial and dance, and will be held in the Foresters' Hall, Hawera, on the 29th inst. The ladies will be the guests of the men whosworked during the epidemic, and the people invited include those who worked at the four hospitals in Hawera and those who were engaged at the Central Information Bureau, otherwise Known as the Dardanelles. It is estimated that over 250 people worked in the four hospitals and at the Dardanelles during the epidemic, and it is a remarkable fact that with the exception of the work done by the professional nurses and two others all the labor was given voluntarily A fine musical programme has been arranged for the social and the catering has been left in the hands of the members of the Red Cross Society, who can be depended upon to do justice to the occasion. An opportunity is presented to those who were assisted back to good health by the V.A.D. workers to show their appreciation by coming forward j with contributions towards the supper | table The proposed function has met I with enthusiastic favor in most quarters and everything points to its being a marked success.
