SUBMARINE AND HYDROPLANE BASE.
PICTON SOUNDS ADVOCATED.

While ai Picton, Mr. Wilford had a conference with the local authorities on the question of using Picton Harbor auci Sounds as a submarine base for New Zealand. Admiral Halsey's approval was I quoted ub sufficient warranty for the idea. The Minister said he had advocated the claims of the harbor both ill and out of Parliament. In conjunction with the deputation, ho visited Waikawa Valley, a few minutes' ride away, end said it apptared well adapted for an aviation and hydroplane station. He suggested that a plan be prepared and a copy sent to all the Ministers.
