Miss H. Slack has been appointed to the position in the Stratford Hospital to be vacated at tie end of the month by Nurse Godney. Rev. M. A. Mr, A. H. Glasgow, manager of the Wanganui branch of the Union Bank, has received advice of his promotion to the management of the Napier branch. Sir. <). Thomson, chief clerk and secretary of the Hawke's Bay Land Board, has received notice of his promotion to the position of Native Land Purchase Officer for the North Island.
Tlie D.S.O, has been conferred on Caplain Louis Nik 11, of Woodville. Referring to his military record, the I4j,yar of Woodville stated that he had previously won a Military Cross. Sergeant Maion j, I).C\M., while'cycling at lla\v"rj on Tuesday, had the misfortime to fai' and break hie leg. He was admitted to a private hospital in Hav/era, and ia progressing favorably.
• There is the sad news from New York that ear trouble, resulting from wounds, has caused Captain Bruce Rairnrfather to abandon Lis proposed visit to Australia. The captain, it ia added, recently becan j almost deaf, and specialists advised his return to England at once tor treatment.
Owing to having- left the district and settled in Hawera, Cr, H. W. J. McNeill on Tuesday tendered his resignation as a member of the Egmont Co\mty Council In doing so he expressed the opinion that an absentee should not retain liia seat. The London manager for the NewZealand Refrigerating Company (Mr 'Francis Theodore Boys), has been made l Knight Commander of the British Empire. For the past two years, however, he has been a Director of Meat Sullies to Great Britain and the Allies.
