(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Lance-Corporal G. Hufiker surprised Hie residents here by arriving home last Friday, well ahead of schedule time, not being expected until Monday. However, although there were not many present to welcome him home, the reception was none the less hearty. He is looking very well, and his fitness is demonstrated by his taking up factory duties on Tuesday morning. Whilst pleased to state that Mr. J. Huckcr, father of the returned soldier, is back from the hospital, the influenza has left him in a very weak state, and for some time yet he will be obliged to move round slowly with the assistance of crutches.
A request by the Patriotic Committee that Privates ITamblyn and Kettlewell, away with the forces, should be returned home as soon as possible has received the approval of the Defence authorities, and the letter has been forwarded to headquarters, so it should not be many months before these two soldiers are with us again.
Although one of the first influenza patients to go from here to New Plymouth, Mr. W J Kcndrick is still an inmate of the hospital His progress is not as satisfactory as his friends wish. He has been under treatment over seven weeks, and is still far from welh
It is rather early for farm selling, but ,1 understand Mr. L. Bint has sold his farm on the Rugby Road, though he will continue farming on the Waimate Plains. I have not heard the name of his successor here.
