There are many ways of keeping tobacco in a soft conditWn; a sliced apple, for instance, or a raw potato are often used, but simpler still and certainly more effective is the direct application i>f water. Imported tobaccos usually carry an excess of moisture, and any addition will taake thorn unsmokable.
