SUCCESS IN LIFE.
MR MASSEY ON CHARACTER In a recent issue of the London publication "Tit-Bits" several prominent men stated the quality they considered most likely to lead to success in life. The following is attributed to the Primp Minister of New Zealand, the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey."Which quality makes most for success in life " How very interesting a question! But how difficult to answer satisfactorily I might say a dozen things, as it seems to me just now, and each would satisfy some cases of success wa see round lis. But if yo« as., me for a quality—well, if I must keep to that, I should say: "A character people can always rely on." .First, a man or woman must Lava whai we generally term a "good character"; he must be known as honest and straight dealing, as trustworthy and reliable; as self-reliant to a degree, and .resolute to do his best. That is, itt any rate, the type ■of man we want to dome to us in the Dominion over the sea. The day for the for the spendthrift, for the ne'er-do-well being sent over to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, because he is-.a failure at home, because hff has lost his character there, because it is hoped that "people abroad will not be>so particular," is quite over. i * To-day, we in the farther-parts of the great British Empire are willing to receive and welcome men and -women,, ijxiys and girls, with open-.arms, and to ifffer them every chance of making naTpes, fortunes, .splendid home* with us. But they must be men and women, boys ,aud girls, of high character;' they must ,be trustworthy and have socio self-reliance; they must be not shirkers.
True manliness, allied io JiJgfc cheirac-, ter! That is what leads to the iiigawX success.
