EVERYBODY'S. MARY GARDEN IN "THE SPLENDID ' SINNER"
Thongs tho plot of "The Splendid Sinner," headliner a!; Everybody's to-night and to-morrow ends with tragedy thinly disguised under the Dame of renunciation, its opening swnei disclose all manner of luxurious living. Mary Gardiner is a heroine new to Xew Plymonth '"fans," and her work for "The Spldiidid Sinner" has been greatly praised In the first pnrt ot the picture the high it'velry of the idle rich is presented. They drink to excess, and are ted to (he liights of artificial pleasure. Still, tha manner in wliio.i these debauches affect the life of the beautiful creature whose whole being craves for splendor are interesting. She is seen before the banquet, making her customed rounds, and affer it, with its effects all too eviaent about her. The story shifts then over to the fighting front iii Europe. The heroine is a Red Cross nurse. The hero is fighting against the Germans and is killed- The villain is a Hun officer who offers the woman mercy if she will betray her dead former husband. She will not. The settings of "The Splendid Sinner" are impressive. So is much of the action. It is an "emotional drama of to-day, and in the gowns of to-day. It is a fine example of a good picture made from a good story. The fourteenth episode of "The Great Secret" also shows with this programme.
THE PEOPLE'S. MAE MARCH IN "THE BELOVED TRAITOR." To-night is the last night of Mae Marsh in her big Goldwyn success, "The Beloved Traitor."
