Westport, Last Night Sydney Patterson, a married man, 01 years of ago and a native of Tasmania, was drowned" laat night in the Nile whilst crossing on horseback the flooded liver at Nile Strwt, Charleston B/» *vaa accompanied by William Woodhcad, who was also on horseback and was carried some d'stance down the river 'before making a safe landing. Woodhead saw Patterson swimming down the .river and thpn suddenly disappear. He did not see him again, but this morning one of his boots was discovered attached to a sua?. It is surmised that it was torn off hig foot while the body was being taken down the river, as his.boots were fully laced up when he left the farm «:amp prior to coming down the stream.
