Tho members of the French Mission were entertained at lunch ycs'tci'de/ by the Governor-General, who proposed the health of tlw Preoident ol' the French Republic. Ho expressed his pleasure In welcoming the mission to i\c.y Zealand, and trusted the good fellowship between the two countries during the war would be farther increased in tines of peace. General Pan, in responding, referred to the glorious part Nov? Zealand had played in the terrible struggle Ol tho last four years, which France would never forget. He alio expressed gratitude for the kindly aid New Zealand had giv<;n to French war charities. ?

ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION AT TIMAIiU. Timaru, J.-.n. 31. A very large crov'd greeted General Pau acd the French iciesioa oa their arrival frosi the north. On a platform erected or.tside the station speeches of welcome were delivered by the Mayor, the Hoa. T. M. WUford. and Mr Craigie, M.P., General Pau replying. The proceeding lasted about \en minutes, and were characterised by the greatest enthusiasm.
