HAWERA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETDCG. The Hawera County Council met on Saturday. Present: Crs. J. B. Murdoch (chairman), R. J. Linn, A. Washer, T. Winks, J. Williams, and C. C. Tarrant.
ELECTION OF OHARMAN. On the motion of Crs. Winks and Linn, the present chairman (Cr. Murdoch) was re-elected unopposedj several of the members speaking in eulogistic terms of the manner in which Cr. Murdoch had carried out his duties. The chairman, in acknowledging the honor, briefly reviewed the work cf last year, referring to the fact that wet weather ,labor difficulties, and the influenza had made the year a memorable and costly one. It was decided to grant the chairman £IOO for services rendered during the past year.
CORRESPONDENCE. Tlie council merely received a communication from tlie Alexandra Borough Council, which desired co-operation in protesting against tuberculosis patient 3 being sent to other towns and becoming a burden on the ratepayers. Hastings Borough Council desired cooperation in urging upon the Government that the Health Department should receive greater powers than at present provided to deal with future epidemicsCrs. Murdoch and Williams both supported the proposal and a motion was carried supporting the request. H. W. Brewer, "Malanara," Hawora, requested the council to put the High Road leading to his property in order so as to have it passable for winter traffic.—No action taken, it being pointed out that applicant had another outlet, and the expenditure Being heavy on the few ratepayers in the neighborhood. FOREMAN'S REPORT.
' A. Muggridge, county foreman, reported a start had been made to sink for foundations of the piers for Tongahoe bridge, Ohangai Road.
It was intended to tar grout the Main South Road after the new metal is laid. Regarding the Tongahoe Valley, Morea and Makino roads, he estimated there was £IOOO damages by flood on these roads caused by slips independent of the bridges required. He thought an application should be made to the Minister ior Public Works for a subsidy to make up the loss.—.Adopted. ,
