Stratford, Jan 9 The monthly meeting of the Stratford Model Dairy Farm Committee was held on the 7th inst,, Mr. J. W. Iteem being in the chair. The Stock Committee reported that dehorning ol cows was completed during the first week of December, li/18, no illeffects being observed, though a slight drop in the milk supply resulted, but the supply wa a back to normal in a day or so. The committee are well satisfied witli the results obtained. Mr. Dingle intimated that the bonus in, respect to the 1917-18 season should be payable at an early date, and that thereafter the monthly payment should be at a higher rate thn heretofore. Mr. T- Walker was elected u member of the society. The Cropping Committee's report was received. A recommeendation was handed on to that committee to defer making ensilage until "neft year. The hiring out of implements was discussed, and It was resolved that, in view of the conditions arising during the influenza epidemic, the drilling of adjoining neighbors' turnips at current rates be approved. It wag resolved that the matter of covering haystacks ibe left in the hands of Messrs Bichards, Wickham, and Pitt. The cvoppitig report was adopted, and is as follows:
Growth of all crops has been alow oa account of the unseasonable weather. Field 10. —Swedes were drilled, on December 18, 1318, }Jin apart, 10y 3 oz seed to the acre; manure IS, super, 2y 2 cwt per acre, for variety test, as follows: From carrots: 4 drill widths Sutton Elephant, 4 drill widths Hurst's Monarch, 8 drill wid'li- Webb's Superlative (not headlands). Area as pegged: Garton'3 Superlative; then the left coulter furnished with Webb's Superlative, balance Gortons Superlative: manure increased to Scwt per &cr». Note: Webb's Superlative of this year was Unattainable, and last year's seed was used. Soft turnips: Growing well. Mangolds: These have been hoed: making fair growth. Swedes: Satisfactory. except Algerian oats; latter slow Azov barley Is easily best tit present. Field 7: ffuda Kale and grass. Fair growth, considering season. Club-root showing in kale. Field fc: Oats and grass: This is a very good crop. The Eau Kina oat 3 much forward of the Algerian, but not so thick.
Field 6: Crimson clover is now making fair growth, and a fair quantity will be available for ploughing in. Accounts amounting to £152 18s Cd were passed for paym9nt. It was resolved that the members of the committee meet at the farm on the Monday afternoon preceding the monthly meeting, for the purpose of inspection. GENERAL. Yesterday there was a disturbing ele. ment in Broadway. A IVilI, whilst proceeding thtough. a by-street, evinced a desire to traverse Broadway; which nowadays is reserved for motor-car and less dangerous traffic. The animal at first assumed a course that kept him in tha middle of the road, but afterwards made for the shop fronts, The drovers bad an anxiou* time, fully anticipating broken windows and other damage owing to the confusion being augmented by unnecessary dogs. Amongst the interested spectators was a policeman, who did not attempt to arrest the unruly and an insurance agent who had no opportunity to effect a policy.
