SPANT TO GO HOME.

By Telegraph—PresK Association. Wellington, Jan. 8.

The Mayor informed a deputation of stranded Australians this morning that it is impossible to arrange for passages by a cargo steamer, not because of tjje regulations, but the alterations to provide accommodation would involve too much delay. He will communicate with the Commonwealth Prime Minister to see if seamen are prepared to man a steamer to bring the stranded people bade. He is also urging Sir James Allen to place the Philomel at the disposal of ■.the Australians for the trip.
